However, we don\u2019t live in an ideal world.\u00a0Some students at this age insist on their\u00a0<b>rights<\/b> to be treated as young adults by their parents and teachers, but unfortunately, do not adhere to the\u00a0<b>responsibilities\u00a0or duties<\/b>\u00a0attached to these rights. Encourage them, in a\u00a0<b>non-confrontational <\/b>way, to see the link between rights and duties and to behave in a manner\u00a0appropriate to their expected level of maturity. If this is not forthcoming,\u00a0you have the right, (and the responsibility) as a parent to intervene. You may\u00a0feel it necessary to act on some of the advice given in relation to Junior Cycle\u00a0students. Try to\u00a0<b>communicate openly and honestly.<\/b>\u00a0Bear in mind the\u00a0<b>pressures\u00a0of adolescence<\/b>\u00a0and be sensitive to their needs.\u00a0<b>Avoid alienation.
