Monaghan Education Centre is delighted to announce the launch of two exciting new teaching resources for primary and post-primary schools in Monaghan.

Designed by teachers in Monaghan schools, as part of the Embedding Tolerance in our Young People project, these innovative resources are adaptable for use in schools throughout the county and further afield.

The resource ‘Peace Together’, a module of lesson plans for Transition Year students, are both available to download from this website.

Financed by the Peace III programme, through Monaghan Peace III Partnership, both resources are designed to address issues of diversity, sectarianism, bullying and racism in our schools.

Peace Together provide teachers with a framework for dealing with issues of diversity in the classroom.  It provides a range of cross-curricular activities designed to encourage critical thinking among Transition Year students.

The resource is set out in eight distinct units, each containing a variety of activities and discussion points.  There are hundreds of different ways to approach this material.  We encourage you to find your own route through.

The level of ongoing support for the programme and resources at post-primary level is evidenced from these comments:

“Overall the programme has made a very important contribution to our school. It has been an exciting and valuable learning experience for all involved and we hope to avail of further opportunities to develop the initiative and promote the practice of celebrating diversity and embedding tolerance in [our school].” Post-Primary Participant

“Our students and teachers who have been involved in the project have found it both rewarding and enjoyable and not alone has it helped to heighten awareness of all the issues raised throughout the project but it has given the students some wonderful opportunities to experience, first-hand, the realities of life in geographic areas where tensions have historically been less than harmonious.” Post-Primary Principal
